DECAL 4 INCHES

WASP started out as two separate organizations. Pilot Jacqueline "Jackie" Cochran wrote to the First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, in 1939 to suggest the idea of using women pilots in non-combat missions. Cochran was introduced by Roosevelt to General Henry H. Arnold, chief of the Army Air Force, who asked her to ferry a bomber to Great Britain in order to generate publicity for the idea of women piloting military aircraft.  Their purpose was to free male pilots for combat roles during World War II

The story of Fifinella began in 1942 when Roald Dahl, who had been removed from flying with the RAF due to injury, wrote The Gremlins, a fairy tale about the hazards of combat flying; in this incarnation, the word "fifinella" only refers to female gremlins Fifinella, the mascot was  created by The Walt Disney Company for the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP).  Fifinella appeared on WASP flight jackets and in many variations on the noses of bombers.
