Flameout at 13,000 Feet

Capt Chris H. Rose 113th FW, DC Air National Guard demonstrated extraordinary airmanship on June 27th, 1996, when as part of a flight of four, his F-16C suffered a flameout at 13,000 feet.

With his wingmen guiding him through the overcast layer below, Capt Rose successfully and skillfully managed to bring his powerless whisper-silent 38,000-pound Viper, for over 15 miles, jettisoning his drop tanks, breaking out at 6000 feet, to a  gracefull touchdown on the runway at Elizabeth City Regional Airport.  A remarkable display of teamwork and professionalism.

All in a day's work...

In recognition of his actions on that day, Capt Chris H. Rose was awarded the Koren Kolligian Jr Trophy.
