The Bell AH-1 Cobra is a two-blade rotor, single-engine attack helicopter manufactured by Bell Helicopter. A member of the prolific Huey family, the AH-1 is also referred to as the HueyCobra or Snake.
It soon became clear that the unarmed troop helicopters were vulnerable against ground fire from Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops, particularly in a landing zone. Without friendly support from artillery or ground forces, the only way to pacify a landing zone was with an aircraft that could closely escort the transport helicopters, and loiter over the landing zone as the battle progressed.
By 1962, the Cobra started to be seen escorting Slicks to their drop zones.

1952: Project Blue Book was one of a series of systematic studies of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) conducted by the United States Air Force (USAF)
A termination order was given for the operation December 1969, and all activity under its auspices officially ceased on January 19th, 1970.
Project Blue Book Goals -
To determine if UFOs were a threat to national security, and
To scientifically analyze UFO-related data.
Thousands of UFO reports were collected, analyzed, and was concluded there was nothing anomalous about UFOs, and a review of the report by the National Academy of Sciences, Project Blue Book was terminated in December 1969.
No UFO reported, investigated, and evaluated by the Air Force was ever an indication of threat to our national security;
There was no evidence submitted to or discovered by the Air Force that sightings categorized as "unidentified" represented technological developments or principles beyond the range of modern scientific knowledge;
and
There was no evidence indicating that sightings categorized as "unidentified" were extraterrestrial vehicles.
By the time Project Blue Book ended, it had collected 12,618 UFO reports, and concluded that most of them were misidentifications of natural phenomena (clouds, stars, etc.) or conventional aircraft.
I hopes of better education the public, the USAF has supplied us with this handy identification chart for you to use with your fellow flight crews, friends and family.

WASP started out as two separate organizations. Pilot Jacqueline "Jackie" Cochran wrote to the First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, in 1939 to suggest the idea of using women pilots in non-combat missions. Cochran was introduced by Roosevelt to General Henry H. Arnold, chief of the Army Air Force, who asked her to ferry a bomber to Great Britain in order to generate publicity for the idea of women piloting military aircraft. Their purpose was to free male pilots for combat roles during World War II.
The story of Fifinella began in 1942 when Roald Dahl, who had been removed from flying with the RAF due to injury, wrote The Gremlins, a fairy tale about the hazards of combat flying; in this incarnation, the word "fifinella" only refers to female gremlins Fifinella, the mascot was created by The Walt Disney Company for the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP). Fifinella appeared on WASP flight jackets and in many variations on the noses of bombers.
